roomies

so when we were in college, ross and i complained to each other about our roommates...a lot.
we both had some really fabulous roomies, but we also had some that were just plain awful.

i had one who would completely fill the sink with dirty dishes...then move to piling them on the counters...and when the counters filled up, she'd start putting them on the patio! i mean, really?!??!

ross had one who would get out, idk--say lunch meat and mayo or chicken fried steak and gravy-- leave it on the counter over night(s) and then, when it was nice and close to rotten, put it back in the fridge!! sick!

anywhoo- these complaints became super valuable info to remember upon getting married and becoming roomies! we knew each other's pet peeves and could take care to avoid them.

well, i don't think i've done a very good job. you see, i'm kinda messy! my room was super-duper-oldest-child-perfectionist-clean growing up. then i moved to college. somehow between end of sr year and start of college, i decided that i didn't really care to make my bed every day. i didn't mind a few clothes on the back of my chair. a few stacks of paper really didn't bother me! so, my crazy clean and organized room became, well, not. i mean, it was/is never dirty...like with dirt. it's just not tidy and i'm pretty sure it gets on ross' nerves! so, here are the reasons that i think i've become a bad roommate. followed by my *excuse...i mean, reasons :)

-i leave little stacks of crap everywhere i go.
*idk why and i really can't blame this on the baby. it definitely has bc (before carson) roots

-i hang stuff on doorknobs all over the house! (bras, bags, purses, diaper bag, etc)
*the cats can't get into it

-my couponing binder/supplies are always on the living room floor.
*i watch tv while i plan my next big money saving excursion

-i only make the bed if we have company coming over
*and they are really lucky guests

-i leave shoes all over the house and pile them on the closet floor
*there is no reason for this one

-there are, pretty much at all times, 3 stacks of my unfolded clothes in our room/bathroom/closet
*i have to try on 50 million different things before i leave the house at least semi-satisfied

(like the paint splotches on the wall in the bathroom? we are testing out sample colors)

-when i do laundry, i leave stacks of clothes on the couch...for a long time
*mainly, i just can't stand laundry. plus, the baby only lets me get so much done at once

-my car is a total mess
*some of it is baby stuff, but i've always been a messy car kind of gal. it makes me feel cozy. in college, i actually used my trunk as a makeshift storage unit!

-i never can fall asleep at the same time as ross
*i've always been a night owl, but this whole insomnia deal is new

-i fill up his dvr with amazingly girly tv
*he actually won a contest at work the other day because of my tv selection awesomeness! ya, you're welcome!

-i definitely don't clean the floors as much as i should.
*it's kinda pointless. it's just going to get dirty again!

-my craft room is a complete and total disaster 99% of the time.
*i'm always mid-project and cleaning it up/taking it all out takes up lots of valuable time

so, even though ross has never once mentioned any of these rommie sins, i have decided to work on them. well, to try to work on them. i mean, they are important to ross (i think?!?!), and i don't want to be his annoying roommate. that being said, i do know that, despite what i do wrong, i also do a lot of stuff right...like, umm...keeping our son alive and putting dinner on the table! that counts for something, right?!?!?!?

Please, Phil!

How I'm longing for a warm day like this...

Instead, we are having a FREEZING week like this...

and this...
Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow today. Maybe spring will come soon....

But, on the upside, I am getting a lot done.
Not knowing how to drive in the ice and snow does have it's benefits. Right???
*House cleaned.
*Good food cooked. (taco soup and chicken pot pie for which I did not have to purchase a single additional item!)
*Work out videos completed while simultaneously entertaining C. I felt like a big dork.
*Little crafty craft made for baby.

*Birdies in the back yard fed...I felt so sorry for them. They were pecking around in the snow looking for food so, I went and sprinkled bird seed all over the place. It made me happy.

Tomorrow I will do some more crafting, some more cleaning, some more laundry and a few more work out videos. Then, I'll pray (double time) that God heats up the ice so that I can
GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Formal Dining Room to Playroom

We are in the process of turning the (unused) formal dining room into a playroom. Ross recently painted the walls a deep mocha color and I want the furniture to be some shade of white or off-white to bring out the crown molding. Also, we took down the chandelier and replaced it with a fan. Here are some pictures of my furniture inspiration. I think that our favorite and most attainable option is some version of the green room.

Productive (and crafty) Weekend

Here's a rundown on our weekend:

I made this amazingly simple and cute earring holder for my sister. All it took was a picture frame, some picture hanging wire and a staple gun! Of course, Ross took these pictures...that's why they are good.

Ross painted the formal dining room, which will now be the playroom. We will be switching out the chandelier in the next few days.

I finished sewing the squares together for my brother's college graduation t-shirt quilt. It is still missing the borders though.

I started and finished a quilt top for our baby boy in one day (minus the border, which I haven't yet decided upon)! Ok, so it's no great accomplishment since it's all squares, but still...

Kitty Love

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our kitties. Berkley, the male, is "Ross' cat" and Riley (or as I call her sometimes, Princess Riley Sophia) is "my cat." We got Berkley a few months after we got married and about a year later we got Riley! These are from last night.

This is how Riley likes me to hold her and, hold her I do...like 24/7. Isn't she SO precious!!!

Berkley likes to put his paws on your face for some reason. I'm pretty sure it is cat speak for I love you.

Sparkly tree

We got our tree up the other night. We put it in the study so that we could close the door to keep out the animals. After we set it up we spent a good 30 minutes trying to take self-timed pics with the puppy and ended up with tons of hilarious, laughing, head-cut-off pics. It was super fun!!

(Lace- Here's our Texas Sized Christmas tree...ok, so it's not that tall...7 1/2 ft)

Our first snow

I was getting ready this morning and Ross came to get me. He brought me to the back yard and everything was white!! We got a good inch of snow accumulated on the ground! Everything melted by about noon and it was so pretty while it lasted! Doesn't our house look pretty in the snow???

K loves R

So I really, really love my husband.

For one, he is currently letting/helping me repaint the kitchen a different shade of green....we just painted it a few weeks ago and I decided it wasn't the right color...what an amazingly patient man. (that's what this pic is from...I was testing paint samples on the wall)

Second- he just took me on a date! We laughed a lot.

He is so smart...like really clever smart...I always call him a boyscout when he does something smart...for example: we were car camping on the beach one time and my smart husband turned the car in the right direction so that the wind blew through the windows all night like a fan! Everyone who had to sleep in the tent was really jealous.

He is also smart about computers, tv's, wires...basically all things electronic. It's stinkin awesome. It blows my mind sometimes b/c he will hook up a network or make my computer be able to print from the living room or make it where I can get to the music on his computer in the other room....I'm always amazed.

I love when he laughs. It delights my heart. I really love it when he laughs so hard that his face squishes up and he has to pinch his nose in between his eyes...I think it is in attempt to not cry?!?!?!

I also love that he is so thoughtful. He is a lot like my dad. (which I LOVE) One sweet example that he and my dad both do (and don't know that they both do) is pick out their socks in the morning using a flash light so that I don't wake up! My dad has done that for my mom for my whole life! It's so so sweet.

I also love that he is so supportive. For example...I went to Texas A&M and earned a pretty prestigious business degree. yeah me...only I decided that was not what I wanted to do with my life....I wanted to be a teacher. So the first year of our marriage Ross let me get my teaching certification while he worked his rear off. I substitute taught every-so-often, but spent most of my time working on my certificate. He was so supportive and wanted me to be happy and to do what I thought the Lord wanted for my life. Amazing...flat amazing.

I also love that he and I have discussions, not arguments. It's awesome. We can be totally honest and listen to each other. We don't have to fight about it because we listen...he listens. Now, we may have to think about our responses before the convo finishes, but he listens to all of my concerns and really cares.

Ok- that's enough for now. There are tons of other reasons, but I will leave them for a different post. I'm going to go cuddle with my husband.

Paint Pros

We painted the living room! It is now 99% done! We are now making a mirror (yes, making) for above the fire place. It will be a fun project to do together. That will be the finishing touch for now. We are stinkin' paint pros!

New blinds!

Our new blinds came in! We finally have some privacy from our neighbors in the 2 story house :) There is still A LOT to do in this room....paint, stone on the fire place wall, new curtains...etc....It is always a work in progress.

Guest Bedroom

Here's a look at the newly redecorated guest bedroom.
My favorite part is the vintage European Moulin Rouge poster that I bought
myself for college graduation--and finally got framed.
