Sums it up.

This picture pretty much sums up my day. Total disarray. It's like one of those "can you spot the___" pictures. So..can you spot anything actually IN its place?

If you're hungry...

If you're hungry at my house, you can probably find something to eat like...
-a bagel in the rocking chair
-a cheese stick in the toy box
-a grilled cheese in the choo choo train
-another grilled cheese in a different toy box
-something bread-like in the ball maze
-a sippy cup of {who-knows-how-old} milk under the couch
-and a whole buffet on the floor.

Or....if none of that sounds appetizing, you can always take a bite out of a bar of soap!

Between the food hiding and the constant helmet wearing, it appears that C is doing some dooms-day preparation...just in case.

Shapes

I'm a visual person and I think C is too. We talk about the things we see all day everyday as I teach him about the world around him. I find that this technique works better for us at this stage than actual "lesson-lessons." Although, the teacher in me desperately wants to type up some awesome lesson plans! That'll happen soon enough.

Being that we spend most of our time in the kitchen, and that I had a roll of hot pink duct tape I was dying to use, I came up with this. I taped some shapes on the floor! Simple as that! Here are some ideas about how to use the shapes. I'd also love to hear your additions to my list!

1- stand in the square/triangle/etc
2- dance in the _____
3- point to the shape
4- put your hand/nose/leg/foot/etc in the ____
5- let's find other items of the same shape and put them in the _____
6- sit in the _____

7- patterns...walk from the triangle to the square to the triangle to the square
8- what other things do we see that are that shape?
9- shapes "twister"...left hand in triangle, right hand in square
10- trace the shape with your finger (or washable marker of you're brave)
11- use similar shapes as a matching game
12- use of prepositions- stand beside/in/under/on/etc the shape

Hmmmm....

I think it's safe to say that we are in the put-things-on-your-head-stage. These were all taken within about 15 minutes. 18 months...such a fun stage!

Black's BBQ

Lockhart, TX: BBQ Capitol of the world. When you are in the area, stopping is a must. There are three main contenders; Black's, Kreuz's and Smitty's. Today we decided on Black's and were not let down a bit. There is a strong divide about which is the best and we plan to try them all again in our own little competition.

Sausage- The best I've ever had and I don't like sausage.

Brisket- Parts were moist, parts were dry, really fatty but great flavor. Overall a 4.0 out of 5.

Sauce- perfection.

{chemical free} fly trap

I saw this on the Internet a few months ago...probably on pinterest. Now I make them frequently to sit by the fruit bowl and catch fruit flies. It works like a charm!

Put some fragrant fruit in the bottom of a jar.

Roll a paper plate or piece of paper into a cone and tape secure with just a small opening on the skinny end.

Insert the cone into jar and press down to be sure there aren't any open spaces between paper and jar. You don't want them to escape!

Then, just sit back and watch the stupid little things fly in and get stuck! Viola!

To empty the trap, go outside and let them free (if you're nice) or rinse them down the drain if they are dead (if you're not as nice).

Lemon Rosemary "Pot"-pourri

My new favorite Williams Sonoma inspired way to freshen up the smell of the house...

Just boil fresh rosemary and a sliced up lemon! Keep it uncovered and add water as needed. The steam that comes off smells clean and refreshing! Plus, it's all natural and essentially free if you have a rosemary plant....or in my case, your friendly neighbor does :)
