4th of July Weekend

We went to Yaya and Papoo's house in Galveston this weekend. As usual, it was a relaxed weekend full of family time, cooking and fishing. We watched the fireworks from balcony, took Amy to the Strand and totally dominated Super Nintendo. It was a wonderful weekend.

Oh- what a day.

I had to drop Lexi off at the kennel this morning for the first time. She was not a happy camper. Either was I. I will seriously miss her this weekend. I got her the upgraded spoiled puppy package though...don't tell Ross :)

Then I went to have lunch with Ross! It was quite a treat b/c his office is far from home, but it's the summer so I have time to do stuff like that! We ate at this little home cooking place and I got chicken 'n dumplins...a childhood fave.

Now- here's the goober moment of the day. We have been having serious problems with our mail, so I was writing a kind little note to leave in our mailbox. As I was writing it I heard her pull up outside! OH NO! So I started running to catch her. She didn't see me, so I had to keep running (in my jeans, nice shirt and flip flops). She still didn't see me flailing my arms or anything! A guy down the street saw me so he cowboy-whistled and she finally stopped. After all of that she informed me that she would have been coming back to our end of the street in just a few minutes....well crap. Oh- btw...did I mention that it is 103 degrees out?

Easy, yummy dinner....sure to get your hubby to compliment you

So tonight's dinner was a simple, simple Ross favorite. We call them:

Chicken Caesar Tacos

Cooked Chicken (grilled our chicken strips)
Caesar Dressing
Lettuce or salad mix
Tortillas
Buffalo Sauce (optional)

Just mix the salad and dressing. Place salad and chicken in tortillas....top with buffalo sauce if desired. Serve with a nice cold brew....or not?!?!

Ross love love loves these and I tend to repeat recipes that get me excessive amounts of compliments....

Teacher Stories

Here's one for you....This happened toward the end of the school year. I need to start writing them down when I remember them b/c kids really do say the darnedest things....

Girl: I don't believe in God.
Boy: That's why God made you live in a trailer.
Teacher: (inside her head and not out loud) Bbbaaaaahahahahah!

Here's another one from earlier in the year.
Girl: Mrs Whigham....is it true that all of the 49ers were midgets?
Teacher: What are you talking about? (crap. apparently I missed the mark when I was teaching this lesson)

One more thing

Albertson's is having a huge sale on meat.....Buy ONE package of meat (steaks, etc)...get TWO FREE! Yes, that is correct....Buy 1 get 2 free. Therefore, we had steaks for dinner. I got 3 packs of sirloin for $19. That works!

Oh poor blog....you are so mistreated.

It has officially been over a year since my last post.

Since that time I have completed my first year of teaching 5th grade and ABSOLUTELY loved it! I have many funny stories about this year of teaching....I will have to share.

We purchased our first home and it's amazing.

We adopted a puppy. Her name is Lexi and she is mostly German Shepherd. She's kind of a turd. We have been taking her on tons of walks so that she stays tired because when she's wide awake she chews everything and barks at the cats. We now have a happy little family of us and 2 cats/1 dog.

Since it is the summer I have been watching lots of HGTV and Food Network. This has of course sparked many projects and new food ideas. Ross is happy about the new foods he gets to try. The other day I made Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars by Barefoot Contessa and he had a cow. They were amazing. My current HGTV projects are many.....laying tile in the master bathroom, building a stone wall around the fireplace, making a scrapbook titled, "We Love You Because..." for my dad, and decorating the living room.

During the summer I get to read and last night I finished, "Cocktails for Three" by
Madeleine Wickham. I'm not going to lie....I kinda picked it out for the cover, but also because her last name is so close to mine! Luckily it turned out pretty good. I finished it in 3 sittings which is impressive for me. Next up is The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice.

Life Update

So, I haven't been on here in a long while. I got a job and am super thrilled!! I will start teaching 7th grade math in the fall!! I can't wait to know my students and start teaching. Also--my sister is coming up tomorrow and spending a week with us. I'm super excited to spend time with her. Then, we are supposed to head down to Galveston for July 4th...I miss my family. Anyway...just started a website for my class. I hope it will be a good way to keep in touch with my kids and their parents....xoxoxo
